ABOUT US.

Just[US] for Change, Inc. strives to educate, spread awareness, and encourage interactive involvement in conversations surrounding prison reform and the effects of the prison system in our community.

Just[US], emphasizing what is considered “just” in society, and “US” focusing on inclusion, is a non profit, social service organization that was founded with the desire to serve, support, educate, and strengthen the black community. Our organization is faith based, and we rely on the bible verse Isaiah 1:17 (Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.) to keep ourselves aligned with the type of service God wants us to do.

Through our commitments, we will organize relevant and intentional initiatives that support our mission; and partner with organizations that work to build community through service projects, while advocating for justice.

OUR STORY.

COMMITMENT.

Just[US] is a product of five black women wanting to be a part of a conversation and a movement that is larger than us.

In early 2020, we took a trip to Montgomery, Alabama where we visited the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. During our visit we had the opportunity of meeting Civil Rights Attorney Bryan Stevenson, and became inspired to pursue social justice work in our own community.  As an organization we gained insight and understanding on how our people, Black people, are still being oppressed by large corporations such as the prison industrial complex and the judicial system. From our trip, we were able to understand the connection between slavery and lynchings to the injustice of Black people that we see today. We decided to take the responsibility of not only continuing to educate ourselves, but also making sure that we’re doing our part as community members to help seek justice, and correct the oppression our race is still facing.

We are committed to serving our community by:

  • focusing on building relationships with local organizations who actively work to make a difference in the area of prison reform

  • directly supporting families and individuals that have been affected by the prison system.

  • educating and bringing awareness to how the Black community is being affected by the the prison/jail system
